“Lise - a very good question! Twin Peaks aka 'A' has yet to come up with the goods.
Tour HQ is most displeased. ”by Ria/Tour HQ on curiouser and curiouser...
“Blackpool still recovering from GREAT night with Jont, Garfield, Dave and the local gang. Was all quite special. Big thanks for coming and sharing your inspiring journey with us - we all now big fans and the CD is being played regularly throughout the borough (probably the nation!). Hope you all enjoyed the Big One x”by Jayne on Unlit live from Blackpool
“The Mini Jont doll is lovely and the mini guitar is perfect.
What an honor to have a doll handmade.
Is anyone out there going to make a mini van to go with it and a model map of the UK
Keep it safe. ”by Eloise O'Hare on mini Jont arrives at Tour HQ
Tour HQ is very aware that many of you have been asking about the final HUGE Unlit to round off the tour on October 4th. We wanted to confirm to you all - wonderful performers and hosts alike - that this will not be happening now.
In its place we will be providing a final fabulous episode to enjoy, featuring the best of the Unlit tour.
We're sorry if this has caused any disappointment but we want to reassure you that Unlit lives on in all its glory. We will continue to provide videos, photos and a retrospective look back from Jont and Dave themselves on this very blog.
So keep coming to visit us right here, because we're not going anywhere!
Possibly also joining the evening will be premier Birmingham bloggers Chris (of Created In Birmingham) and Bobbie.
After tonight it's south to Bristol for the Unlit finale. There is one hell of a reception waiting for Jont, Dave and Garfield and this is going to be one very looooooong Unlit, that's for sure!
I had to take a cab to get to Glasgow Prestwick to get a flight to Paris for a wedding at the weekend... from Paris Beauvais airport it was a bus into Paris, a cab to Gare Montparnasse, a train to Angouleme in Cognac... then I had a slim 30 minutes to get a cab to Salle de Villefagnans where two of my best friends - Sam and Liane - were getting married.
I was playing a song at the service so like a scene out of a Richard Curtis film, the taxi driver was speeding through the French countryside while I was getting changed into some smart clothes in the back! We arrived and I piled out of the cab - guitar and bag in hand - to run past the wedding party, who were just walking into the church.
There was just enough time to tune up and catch my breath before it was my turn. Fairly dazed, unkempt and confused I did my best to do justice to Bob Dylan's Feel My Love... it wasn't that hard because in front of me I had two of the most beautiful people I've ever met, sat in their wedding gear, holding hands with the look of love and bliss on their faces. It all worked out ok and they even gave me a clap before we downed Champagne and I went and crashed before it was time for dinner.
Monday came and it was time for the crazy journey back to Glasgow and Dave, Garfield and Maya the motorhome.
The end of the tour is in sight now... we've been with Big Hand in Edinburgh, Mik Artistik in Leeds and with Hannah at last night's Leicester mini Unlit. Now we're heading to Blackpool for another mini Unlit and then onto Birmingham and Bristol for the last two biggies of the tour.
I hope you're enjoying the brilliant episodes of On The Road that Dave is making on the way, along with the help of Editor Paul and Producer Tamsin down in London... stay tuned... xxj
It was a long drive the next day after the Bettyhill gig. West to Tongue and then south - on the most beautiful road I have ever been down in my life - as we headed back across Sutherland to Bonar Bridge.
There were hawks hanging in the air, or hovering waiting for the kill, hills and valleys stretching out all around us. I had an intimate photo with one of the locals...
... and after traveling hundreds of miles we eventually reached Ali and Sophie's place near Dumbarton for the week's only official Unlit gig.
Here I am with the lovely pair.
There were a bunch of people already there - all incredibly friendly - a drum kit, keyboard and amp all set up in the front room and even a veggie lasagne in the oven. Peeking through into one of the other rooms I saw just how much effort they had made to get ready: the side room was packed completely full of their belongings, which they had moved to make space for the arrival of a whole swathe of the local Scottish Americana folk scene.
Once again, as with Norwich, the enthusiasm of the host meant that we had eight bands playing instead of the normal three or four. But that was alright, especially when they were this good and I've to say it... this nice! Really, it's been incredible the people we've met on this trip, all so excited about being part of an Unlit and already up to the same sort of thing anyway. Ali had been meaning to put on something like this in his place for a while and the Unlit tour had just catalysed it, while Stu - the lead singer of the hilarious Rodent Emporium - was totally aware of the value of this sort of party with substance and was already putting nights on like this.
Wooden Box were my favourite band of the night. They were dressed as hillbillies with facial hair that would make Captain Birdseye envious! They played a banging acoustic set with lop pedal and three part harmonies, bass, drums and guitar... and all without using a mic for the vocal (which is generally one of the main features of an Unlit). You could totally see how they would tear apart a place when they were properly plugged in, but as it was they rocked Ali's front room!
When the music finally finished at around 12.30am (definitely the last time we have so many acts!) Dave and Garfield were knackered. Dave even lay down on the floor! A little bit later I played piano to some guys who were left, but then it was time for Ali to call me a cab... I had a plane to catch to France and a wedding to attend...
