deep fried update from Tour HQ
Last night Jont, Dave and Garfield enjoyed a Glaswegian night on the tiles with Big Hand. Remember them? They are the Edinburgh-based band the guys met at a Chiswick petrol station right at the start of the tour.
Dubious nutritional choices were made at dinner with a curry followed by deep fried Mars Bars. More calories than you can shake a stick at but when you're on the road you have to keep your strength up. (Or at least that's what the guys are telling Tour HQ...)
Unfortunately the Unlit crew's beauty sleep was rudely interrupted in the wee small hours by someone banging on the van. High spirits remain intact though, as Maya heads south for the city of Leeds and a hook-up with Mik Artistik: the infamous and awesome poet, singer and comedian.
With fans including Keith Allen and poet Seamus Heaney, Tour HQ was curious to catch up with the man himself to find out how his story began and what he's planning for tonight's gig at The Grove...
"My first spot was at The Grove after I was heckling someone. I got up and did 25 minutes of 'How Much Is That Doggy In The Window?'. I think it was about 17 verses just off the top of my head." He explains. "I thought they were going to kick me out but they asked me to come back."
Suddenly Mik starts to whisper. We're confused, until he tells us he's just gone into the library. We continue our chat in hushed tones...
"I spoke to the lads on the phone earlier and they'll be joining me at The Grove. I'm sure something exciting will happen. There's no battle plan, we'll have half a shandy or a ginger ale and take it from there."
Before we let Mik go though, we just had to find out the story behind his Cloak of Invisibility...
"It's a song about a man with a Cloak of Invisibility so he can go into shops and steal things. It's an eccentric piece of theatre."
And with that we leave Mik to his books and look forward to tomorrow's tales of tonight.
PS You can check out Mik's performance at Glastonbury earlier this year here and enjoy a live performance at The Railway in London's Tulse Hill on October 25th.
