 ...the latest from the tour

ahhhh, Bristol

Heading outside to sit down with my half pint of Gem and look out over the wharf: the sun setting, various folks enjoying that hour or so between the end of work and dinner, sail boats bobbing around knowing I had five minutes before the taxi arrived to take us to the gig, I saw this guy in a top hat, a tusk in his ear and one incredibly seamless, soft looking dreadlock. I sat down next to him. A few minutes later I was shaking Zaran's hand, and he'd agreed to come to Salisbury when we were passing through next Tuesday to show me some of his art.

Wow, all these people already! I was buzzing, feeling like some modern day Anneka Rice, but just meeting cool people, not shouting through headphones in a yellow jumpsuit.

Our taxi driver was called Zaffir. In my current state of mind this was an incredible coincidence! Zaffir! Zaran! All in a few minutes... isn't that amazing guys? Dave and Garfield nodded as if to say ok Jont, I think you're getting a little excited.

Dave finished the last of the Jaffa mini cakes and we sat back, heading past the wharf into town, up the hill 'til seconds later we were on the pavement walking towards a sweet, independent and beautiful bookshop...

... where Jase, our host for the night was outside, half a plastic cup of rose in his hand... Jase!

Thank you so much man. Tonight was amazing. We packed in the back, Slow had already set up... drum kit, bass, electric guitar, harmonium, guitar... and we're filling the children's section!

Well I don't know which section it was but they took up half the shop - people and wine bottles in the other - and when it was the right time we began. Songs about David Cameron and ketamine from the one and only Stanley Forbes (check out his MySpace page here)...

Some incredible poetry from Malussi...

Close your eyes and the rhythms and sounds mixed with his incredible ear for music, so that you could have heard an album of it. Sweet Laredo, the wonderful Slow... and then playing a couple of mine with Slow and it was so much fun to play two tunes together that we had never played before that moment with them.

Too many things just to describe here... really check it out, it'll all be up in the performers gallery. Such a beautiful night, can't believe the talent that turned up. Jase laughed loudly and happily, and we wandered off in between sets for cigarettes.

Finally when it was all over, we wandered off and saw the band Big Hand - the guys we'd met in the petrol station in Chiswick about 10 hours ago - at a bar round the corner. We said goodbye and talked about seeing them in Scotland later on the tour.

Dave got a pizza, ate half left it, and bang = yep, bedtime, caravan, laughing, no jaffa cakes, no laughing, bed, choices, you there, me here, him there.

Tomorrow the adventure continues, can't believe it.
